MY LIFE STORY + Guests
Underground legends of the 90s Britpop movemenet, My Life Story are coming to the main stage at Bedford Esquires as part of only a handful of dates on Friday 4th August.
In 1993, MLS were spotted by Giles Martin, (the son of Beatles legend George) who offered them free time at his fathers studio. The debut single Girl A, Girl B, Boy C was born, a tale of a bizarre love triangle with a big band soundtrack. All foxy horns and horny foxes, it was released by indie label Mother Tongue and possessed a sassy swing which sounded gloriously out of place in the year of grunge. NME and Melody Maker made it their Single of the Week.
Their debut album Mornington Crescent was released to critical acclaim on the same label and MLS toured extensively in the UK and France, headlining over Oasis and supporting both Blur andPulp. In 1996, MLS signed to Parlophone and released their second album,The Golden Mile. All five singles from the album became top forty hits including 12 Reasons Why I Love Her, Sparkleand Strumpet.
The My Life Story orchestra were in high demand during the Britpop era, with notable appearances on the Morrissey track Interlude, and collaborations with Marc Almond and PJ Probyon the 1996 album Legend.
1999 saw the release of If You Cant Live Without Me Then Why Arent You Dead Yet the first ever internet single.
The third and final album Joined Up Talking was released in 2000, and the band called it a day shortly after their sixth top forty hit Its a Girl Thing.
Now Jake runs his own label Exilophone Records and has begun to re-release much of the now deleted back catalogue as well as his own material.
Support comes from Wake Up Leo, Fizzes of guitar and synth with huge choruses and fragile refrains; these are the Hallmark of Leo Ulph and his band. There’s a story to tell round every corner and If you’re yearning for a show with satire, humour, theatrics and poignant commentary on modern life, all set to pumping riffs; look no further. ”Wake Up Leo is an artist with cracking songs and big personality – go and see a show now to hear the anthems of the future.”
